Community organizations evicted from hall

The Bay Road Community Hall Association has been booted out of its hall, which means hundreds of young people are losing the location of their organized activities in the Lewis Lake area.

Association chairman Chris Milley tells The Herald it’s putting a huge hole in community programming.

The building at 4408 St. Margarets Bay Road is a former fire station that was beginning a new role as a community hall after the fire department moved in April.

The problem is the land is owned by the province while the hall is owned by Halifax Regional Municipality.

The Herald reports a letter from the municipality on Friday told the groups it could take six to twelve months to sort out, but MLA Bill Estabrooks says it’s not rocket science and adds a deal needs to be worked out quickly.
