Family SOS

Family SOS was founded in 1978 by Dr. John Anderson, a Pediatrician at the IWK.  He witnessed first hand the need for a proactive approach to support families in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

It acheived this goal by assisting families through developing parenting confidence and skills and providing child-center programming.

It is an inclusive family support agency and offers FREE comprehensive programs that benefit all family members.

Their main focus is on:

• Increasing parenting confidence

• Developing relationships within families

• Fostering self-awareness

• Improving confidence in children and youth

• Encouraging pro-social choices

• Strengthening communication within families

• Improving health and well-being

• Empowering self-sustainability
