Another big change in gas and diesel coming at midnight

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Expect another big change in the price of gas and diesel at midnight Friday into Saturday.

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board will be invoking the interrupter clause.

“This change is necessary due to significant shifts in the market prices of gasoline and diesel oil,” the UARB said in a news release.

According to Rory Johnson, managing partner and market analyst with Price Street, it's safe to say another increase is on the way.

Early Friday morning, the provincial regulator moved the minimum price for self-serve regular up by 10.1 cents to a new record high of 166.6.

The news was much worse for those needing diesel, with that fuel up by a whopping 17.2 cents at midnight to 183.7, also a record.

The UARB had already used the interrupter clause earlier this week to raise diesel prices. Last Friday, they were set at 160.0.

One year ago we were paying $1.24 for gasoline and $1.16 for diesel.
