Autism tool kits to be provided at HRM public libraries

HALIFAX – There are new public tools available for people living with autism spectrum disorder.

Autism Nova Scotia is teaming up with Halifax Public Libraries to provide tool kits to assist those on the spectrum.

There are three types of kits available: visual tools, sensory tools and fidget tools.

Marc Muschler with Autism Nova Scotia told NEWS 95.7, they're there to help with all sorts of different things that people with autism might have difficulty with.

“The fidget tools bag has things like tangle tubes, tangle therapy and different kinds of tools that would make it easier for them to sit in a classroom, work or for long periods of time,” she said.

These tool kits are available at all public libraries in HRM, and can be checked out at the front desk just like a book.

Muschler said anyone can try them out.

“Although these were developed for people on the spectrum, they can also be useful for people who are not on the spectrum as well,” Muschler said.

You can contact the library or Autism Nova Scotia for more information.
