A former Halifax Mooseheads captain is heading back to the National Hockey League.

Justin Barron has been recalled by the Montreal Canadiens after spending 25 games in the American Hockey League with the Laval Rocket.

A Halifax native, Barron played five games with Montreal last year before being sidelined by injury and failed to make the final roster at the end of training camp with the Habs this season.

The defenceman says he is happy to be back in the NHL with Montreal and is hoping to make an impact, adding that he feels good, and is confident in his game and is excited for the opportunity.

In his 25 games in the AHL this season Barron has tallied 16 points.
