Climate strike affecting traffic in downtown Halifax early Friday afternoon (3 photos)

Local students are joining in a worldwide climate strike to demand action on climate change

UPDATE: As of 3:30 p.m., police say they are no longer on the scene at Province House and traffic in the area has returned to normal.

Note, this is a corrected story. A previous version stated a man was arrested for throwing a rock during this demonstration, when in fact he was arrested during a demonstration on Thursday.

*************************

Halifax Regional Police say traffic is heavy in the downtown core, particularly in the area of Province House.

Locals are joining in a worldwide climate strike to demand action on climate change.

The rally started in Victoria Park at noon and protesters are marching through the south end.

Police are asking people to avoid the congestion in the area.
