A case of COVID-19 was identified on HMCS Halifax Sunday, a day before the ship was scheduled to return to Halifax.
In a release issued Sunday night, the Navy said a member recieved a positive PCR test result after first taking a rapid test.
The member is said to be asymptomatic and has been isolated. The remaining company tested negative.
HMCS Halifax is expected to arrive at the HMC Dockyard on Monday morning after returning from taking part in Operation Reassurance. Because of the COVID-19 case, the crew will remain on the ship to undergo further testing. A decision on how to move forward will be made by Maritime Forces Atlantic and provincial health officials.
The Navy says while it's unfortunate a typical welcome home can't happen this time, the health and safety of sailors and their families is the priority.
