COVID-19 concerns cancel convocation ceremonies at some local universities

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Some local universities are cancelling convocation ceremonies over concerns about the spread of COVID-19.

Mount Saint Vincent University has called off its ceremony and says all graduating students will get their degrees, certificates and diplomas.

The school has also committed to giving those students the opportunity to cross the stage at a later date, possibly in the fall.

Dalhousie University's convocation and University of King’s College's Encaenia ceremonies scheduled for May 2020 have also be cancelled.

NSCAD's graduation ceremony scheduled for May 11 has been postponed.

Nova Scotia announced its first three presumptive cases of COVID-19 late Sunday morning.

At a news conference Sunday afternoon, the province announced all organizations and businesses must keep gatherings below 150 people or much smaller if possible.
