Dartmouth Christmas Tree Lighting happening Saturday

Large crowds are expected at Alderney Landing Events Plaza Saturday evening.

Mayor Mike Savage and members of council are inviting the public out to the Dartmouth Christmas Tree Lighting.

The free family-friendly event goes from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and will feature live entertainment, hot chocolate, cookies, train rides, fireworks and a visit from Santa.

Alderney Landing is also be hosting a Christkindlmarket this weekend, featuring food, carolling, crafts and artisans.

The centuries-old German tradition dates back to the Middle Ages, where communities hold Christmas markets in their central squares, and vendors in small wooden huts sell food, decorations, jewellery, crafts and more.
