Halifax Regional Police say the driver of an SUV suffered a medical issue before crossing the centre line and hitting an unmarked police vehicle, then a telephone pole.

Police say the SUV had been heading north on the Bedford Highway near Tremont Drive at around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The SUV driver, a 38-year-old Dartmouth woman, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A 38-year-old officer with nine years of service was also taken to hospital for assessment. A 45-year-old officer with 10 years of service who was a passenger in the police vehicle was not hurt.

Police say they are still investigating but charges are not anticipated.
