Crews quickly put out fire at ORB toy factory (UPDATE)

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Halifax Fire crews managed to quickly tackle an early-morning fire at a local toy factory on Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to ORB on Herring Cove Rd. at around 6:30 a.m. to reports of smoke. As it turned out, the heat pump unit on the roof had caught on fire.

“Crews quickly put the fire out and the situation was under control in 15 to 20 minutes,” said acting district chief Joe Fulton.

“They're going to be open for business today,” he added. “We were lucky, the HVAC unit was on a concrete block so nothing into the structure at all.”

Fulton said crews were on scene for about 40 minutes.
