Family of 6 displaced after house fire in Sipekneꞌkatik First Nation

TRURO, NS — A family of six has been temporarily displaced by a fire that damage a house in Sipekneꞌkatik First Nation, about 40 kilometres southwest of Truro, Nova Scotia.

The Sipekneꞌkatik Band Council arranged emergency lodging for a couple and their four children, and Canadian Red Cross volunteers are helping with purchases like clothing, food, and some other basics.

The man was briefly treated at hospital for minor smoke inhalation but there were no serious injuries from the fire along Poplar Street, reported around 10:30 a.m. today (Monday).
