The Ratha Yatra Festival of Chariots may cause some traffic delays on Saturday.
Coming to Halifax for the first time, the annual event that originated in India will feature a parade that will travel through downtown Halifax from noon to 2:00 p.m.
According to the event’s website, the parade will start at Garrison Grounds and wind its way down Spring Garden Road via Brunswick Street and return to the starting point.
Traffic delays are expected and HRM is asking motorists to expect delays and use alternative routes whenever possible.
The event will be escorted, and traffic controlled, by Halifax Regional Police.
In addition to the parade, the Ratha Yatra Festival at Garrison Grounds will include many events, cultural performances like traditional Indian dance and music, henna and face-painting, activities for children and, according to the website, a “free vegetarian feast."
