UPDATE: The highway was opened to traffic at 8:30 a.m.

A major roadway in Halifax was shut down early on Monday morning due to a fuel leak.

Halifax Fire says a truck leaking diesel forced the closure to the 102.

Traffic on Highway 102 outbound was being redirected at Exit 1A onto Highway 103, and traffic on Highway 103 inbound was being redirected at Exit 1B onto Highway 102.

A spokesperson said fire crews were waiting for an industrial cleanup crew just after 7 a.m.

He expected the highway would remain closed until close to 9 a.m.
