Halifax-based crystal maker shutting down for good after more than 20 years in business

By Shelli Summers

Canada's last maker of mouth-blown and hand-cut crystal, based in Halifax for over 20 years, will be closing its doors for good.

NovaScotian Crystal announced the shutdown on Thursday, saying it could not continue to stay in business because of the pandemic.

The company says in a release it was not able to envision a sustainable business in the foreseeable future.

The release goes on to say restrictions severely reduced its production capacity, but the final blow came with the loss of cruise ship visitors and tourists in the summer.

NovaScotian Crystal says it will continue to fulfil customer orders until its planned closing at the end of February.
