Halifax Public Gardens to stay open year-round

One of the signs that winter is on the way is the annual closing of the Halifax Public Gardens, but not this year.

Halifax Regional Municipality spokesperson Nick Ritcey said the public will be able to go for a stroll from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 7 days a week, unless it's really snowy.

“We're constantly listening for feedback and one of the things visitors have asked us was to keep the gardens open for the winter months,” he said.

Ritcey said they will be posting maps online and on-site so people will know which paths have high priority when it comes to snow clearing.

“If there is no snow, they have pretty much total access to gardens with the exception of Griffin's Pond which will be under construction,” he said.

The public can access the Halifax Public Gardens through the four corner gates, and Ritcey warns, although the site is open, the bathrooms will be closed this winter.
