How many Canadians are playing Wordle?

Do you play Wordle?

According to local polling company Narrative Research, 10 per cent of Canadians are enjoy the word game every day.

Another 8 per cent play regularly but it's not part of their daily routine.

Wordle offers up a mystery five letter word every 24 hours. Players have six guesses to try and figure it out. If a letter in a guess is in the answer and in the right spot, it turns green. If a letter is in the answer but in the wrong spot, it turns yellow.

Anyone with a Facebook account may find this difficult to believe, but 27 per cent of respondents to the survey had never heard of Wordle. That figure was highest in French-speaking Quebec where 55 per cent were unaware of the game's existence.

Ten per cent of Canadians have tried it once or twice, but haven't started playing regularly.

Another 45 per cent have heard of Wordle, but haven't yet taken the plunge.

“There are also marked differences in those who play Wordle regularly across age groups, where more Canadians in the Gen Z (27%), Millennial (24%) and Gen X (19%) age categories play Wordle compared to those ages 55+ (12%),” Narrative Research added.

The results are courtesy of an online survey between March 11 and March 14 of 1,232 Canadians 18 years of age or older, conducted from the Logit Group's Canadian Omnibus, which surveys people about their opinions and behaviours related to topical issues.

As a non-probability sample (a panel sample where residents have joined a panel to share their opinions), a margin of error has not been applied.
