Immersive Rolling Stones exhibit coming to Halifax

By Meghan Groff

An immersive Rolling Stones exhibit is coming to Halifax next month.

After stops in cities including London, New York, Sydney and Tokyo, Unzipped will be on display in Bayers Lake from December 17 to March 19.

It will be hosted by entrepreneur Rob Steele in his new event space appropriately called Steele Wheels, which is located in the former Kartbahn go-kart facility.

Steele told CityNews Halifax any fan could spend hours at the display examining over 300 original objects from the Rolling Stones’ personal collection.

“Costumes that they've worn on stage over the years, you're going to see instruments that they've played and written classic songs on, you're going to see original lyrics and working notes, there will be a virtual concert,” he listed.

There's even a re-creation of a flat in Chelsea where Mick Jagger, Brian Jones and Keith Richards lived shortly after forming the band, complete with dirty dishes and empty beer bottles.

And there will be a gallery display of guitarist Ronnie Wood's paintings.

Once Unzipped wraps up in March and moves onto its next tour stop, Steele Wheels will be transformed into an exotic car museum.

Steele said the 37,000 square foot facility will be able to display around 60 to 70 vehicles.

“We're going to have everything from classic American cars and classic European cars from the '20s, '30s, '40s, '50s and on,” he said. “We'll have some classic Lamborghinis and Ferraris. It will be really interesting for car enthusiasts.”

The plan is to change up the display on a fairly regular basis.

You can find more information on both the Steele Wheels Motor Museum and the Unzipped Rolling Stones exhibit online.
