HALIFAX – A panel discussion on issues within the Nova Scotia health care system takes over Halifax Central Library Friday.

It's part of the 16th annual Interdisciplinary Health Research Conference, which aims to tackle access to care for patients and other issues.

Friday will see researchers, students and members of the public offering their take on the importance of both how the environmental determinants of health and also how sustainability is impacting the health of communities.

The panel will also discuss the patient experience and how health professionals can be better recruited to serve rural or under-served areas.

Holly Mathias, one of the event's co-chairs, said all events are open to the public and they're hoping to attract many students “to learn from other speakers, students and Dal faculty as well.”

“We also are really keen to have students further their research and build networks,” Mathias said.

“There's a lot of good work going on in the province, not just by health professionals and health researchers, but by a lot of students as well who are hoping to become the next policy maker or leaders in their field.”

The conference will run through Saturday with the weekend session scheduled for Dalhousie University.
