International friendly to help gauge local talent for HFX Wanderers brass

By Mark Hodgins

Halifax's newest football club will be taking part in an international soccer friendly match this month in hopes of finding some local talent.

The HFX Wanderers Atlantic Selects will be a hand picked group of local players that could find their way onto the team.

The club, managed by Stephen Hart, takes on Germany's Fortuna Düsseldorf in an international soccer friendly.

President of Sports & Entertainment Atlantic Derek Martin says playing the U-23 German team will be a good way to guage some of the local talent.

Martin tells NEWS 95.7 the friendly will be an important test for the new manager.

“Stephen's been working away on identifying the top players in the Atlantic provinces that are under the age of 25,” said Martin. “It'll give Stephen a good chance to get a good look at them and get to know them a little bit better.”

Martin says tickets are on sale, and will be the first chance for people to see soccer action on the Wanderers Grounds.
