The Port of Halifax says they saw 23 per cent more cruise ship passengers in 2017.

They say 292,722 guests arrived on 173 ships, which is an increase of 27 per cent in vessel calls.

Interim vice president of operations for Halifax Port Authority Catherine McGrail said it's been an incredible year.

“Nova Scotia is a great place to visit, people love coming here and we work hard with our partners to keep them coming back,” she said in a news release.

“The tourism operators and service providers deserve full recognition for the tremendous season, and we are looking forward to working with them again next year.”

Cruise ship season usually starts in mid-April and goes until the end of October, with autumn being the busiest time of year.
