Local restaurant owner still not sold on benefits of Nova Centre

The owner of the Wooden Monkey restaurant is excited to hear the Halifax Convention Centre has an official opening date, but still isn't sure it will benefit surrounding businesses.

The Centre announced Tuesday that it will officially open on Dec. 15.

That's a little over two weeks away, which is a big relief to Lil MacPherson, as the Wooden Monkey restaurant was one of many businesses that have come out and said they have been severely impacted by the construction.

MacPherson said she's glad to see the dust has finally settled.

“If you took a look at our windows right now you can hardly see through them, that's how much dust is kicking up because you can tell they're furiously trying to get this finished,” she said. “It'll be a miracle if they pull this off, but it's good they have a date and are putting pressure on themselves. Hopefully we can see an end to that and get our street back.”

But MacPherson says she's still not 100 per cent sure if the centre is the best bang for our buck, as she feels there were better ways to bolster our economy.
