Local transit union president applauds, voices concerns with mobility plan

The president of the local transit union says he applauds some aspects of HRM's Integrated Mobility Plan, but is also outlining some concerns.
The municipality voted unanimously to approve the plan earlier this week. It aims to get more Haligonians walking, bussing and biking.
“There's some good things in there. Bike lanes are a good thing, transit dedicated lanes are a good thing,” said Ken Wilson.
But Wilson says he is not a fan of HRM's continued look at a commuter rail system, and says he feels some possible costs of that are being hidden from taxpayers.
He adds that he's never been asked for input.
“We should have been brought to the table and at least consulted on this,” said Wilson.
He suggested a more logical approach to getting people from Bedford to Halifax would be making use of the ocean with high-speed ferries.
