A local player will be joining the Mooseheads' captain at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship in Alberta.

Hockey Canada on Sunday announced its roster for the tournament, which begins next Tuesday in Edmonton.

Enfield's Riley Kidney, who plays for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, was named to the team. The 19-year-old was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in round two of the 2021 NHL entry draft.

Meantime the Halifax Mooseheads will also be represented at the World Juniors, with team captain Elliot Desnoyers getting the nod.

The tournament starts Aug. 9.
