Midtown Tavern co-owner Eric Grant dies

HalifaxToday.ca received the following notice from Atlantic Funeral Homes regarding Eric Grant, co-owner and operator of the Midtown Tavern

Eric Douglas Grant, 59, of Dartmouth, beloved co-owner and operator of the Midtown Tavern, passed away on December 15th, 2017 in Halifax, after a brief struggle with cancer. Eric was born on Dec 13th, 1958 in Shad Bay to Doug and Jean Grant. Influenced by Doug and Jean’s passion for sport, Eric was heavily involved in softball, hockey, and lacrosse from a young age.
In 1977, Eric joined the family business alongside his father Doug, starting his forty-year career serving drinks and smiles at the Midtown Tavern. Together with his brother Bobby, and more recently his son Colin, they carried on Doug’s legacy, successfully moving the Midtown Tavern to a new location and creating many more years of great memories.
In 1980, Eric married Susan Leavens and over 37 years, they raised three children; Colin, Aaron, and Julie. He was more recently blessed with three beautiful granddaughters; Maisie, Caris, and Edie, whom he adored.
Eric will be fondly remembered for his welcoming smile, warm greetings, and good-natured chirping; and will be sorely missed at the bar, at the rink, and on the fairways. Eric’s spirit has touched thousands and those lucky enough to have crossed his path will not soon forget him.
Eric is survived by his wife Susan (Leavens); children Colin (Angie Burgess), Aaron (Joanne Mate), Julie (Alonso Guerrero); grandchildren Maisie, Caris and Edie; brothers Bobby (Bev) and Jeffrey, sisters Arlene (Robert Naugler) and Laara. He is predeceased by his parents Doug and Jean, and his brother John.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St, Dartmouth from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday December 19 and from 3-5 pm on Wednesday December 20th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home chapel immediately following visitation Wednesday at 5pm.
