By CityNews Halifax Staff

HALIFAX – The Halifax Mooseheads skated away with a win on Saturday, defeating the Gatineau Olympiques 4-1 at the Scotiabank Centre.

The Herd got off to a strong start, with Otto Somppi and Max Fortier netting a pair to give Halifax a 2-0 lead in the opening frame.

Neither team managed to score in the second period, with Gatineau out shooting the Mooseheads 10-5.

William Basque eventually put Gatineau on the board early in the final period. But Somppi followed up quickly, scoring his second of the evening to make it 3-1 Halifax.

Arnaud Durandeau's empty netter late in the third helped seal the 4-1 win for Halifax.

The Mooseheads are back in action tomorrow when they host Drummondville.
