Mooseheads devour Huskies 6-2 at home

By Andrew Pinsent

HALIFAX – Filip Zadina and Raphaël Lavoie each had two goals and a assist as the Halifax Mooseheads knocked off Rouyn-Noranda 6-2 at Scotiabank Centre on Friday night.

The three points from Zadina, who was named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League rookie of the month earlier in the day, put him in the lead in league scoring with 41 points. It was Lavoie's second straight game with three points.

Mooseheads captain Maxime Fortier kicked in a goal and an assist in the win, while Benoit-Olivier Groulx added a tally of his own.

Otto Somppi also added two helpers while Connor Moynihan and Jocktan Chainey each had an assist.

Defenceman Chris McQuaid had both goals for the Huskies, which were also his first two of the season.

Fortier got his team on the board on the powerplay 5:27 into the first with a shot from the point that eluded Rouyn-Noranda goalie Samuel Harvey because of a screen from forward Connor Moynihan. It was Fortier's 17th goal of the season.

Groulx put the Mooseheads up 2-0 at 13:35 of the first period with his 15th of the year.

Zadina made it 3-0 early in the second period, making him the first player in the QMJHL this season to score 20 goals. That goal would prove to be the game winner.

Lavoie put in his first goal of the game 7:33 into the second to put the Herd up 4-0 before McQuaid finally got the Huskies on the board at 13:05.

Lavoie scored his second of the frame and ninth of the season to make it 5-1 with just under four minutes to go in the second, assisted by Mann-Dixon.

McQuaid would bring it to 5-2 about five minutes into the third but that's as close as the Huskies would get as Zadina buried his 21st of the season and second of the game at 14:29.

Halifax goaltender Blade Mann-Dixon made 25 saves for the win, moving his record to 12-2-2.

The Mooseheads are back in action on Saturday night at Scotiabank Centre taking on the Val-d'Or Foreurs.

The game can be heard on News 95.7 with the pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. and puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
