SYDNEY, N.S. – The Halifax Mooseheads defeated their provincial rivals on Wednesday, topping the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 5-2 at Centre 200.

Both teams came out swinging in the opening period, as Halifax's Jocktan Chainey and Raphael Lavoie gave the Herd an early 2-0 lead. Cape Breton responded quickly, with Olivier Bourret and Phelix Martineau tying it up at 2-2 after 20 minutes.

Connor Moynihan helped Halifax retake a 3-2 lead in the second period.

After that, the Mooseheads took over as Xavier Parent and Arnaud Durandeau helped seal the deal in the third and secure a 5-2 victory.

On Friday, the Herd returns home to the Scotiabank Centre to welcome the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
