Nova Scotia Health warns of phone scams

Nova Scotia Health is warning of a new phone scam.

Some have reported receiving a robocall claiming to be from Public Health, the Department of Health or the Ministry of Health.

It asks those who answer to immediately call back an out-of-province number, often with a 613 area code.

Late last month, Nova Scotia Health warned of another scam involving automated phone calls appearing to be from public health officials.

In that one, the robocall tells the person that they have been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive, or that they have tested positive.

“Public Health does use automated calls to provide COVID-19 test results. If you are waiting for test results, you may receive an automated call,” Nova Scotia Health said in a news release.

“However, it will ask you to verify your identity with the last four digits of your health card and your birth date. You will not be asked to call a number back to provide additional personal information.”
