Nova Scotia now reporting more than 700 deaths due to COVID-19

Nova Scotia has topped the 700 mark when it comes to COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

According to the health department’s COVID-19 dashboard updated yesterday, seven deaths due to the virus were reported, saying those were added from previous reporting periods.

There were no new deaths for latest reporting period of Jan. 3 to Jan. 10.

There have now been 701 COVID-related deaths in the province since early 2020.

589 of those since the Omicron variant emerged in December 2021.

A more contagious subvariant of Omicron also known as Kraken, was identified in the province last week.

Nova Scotia Health is also reporting 1,038 new cases of the virus are confirmed by PCR tests, which is an increase from the last two reporting periods.
