Halifax Fire says one person is dead after a fire at a home in Dartmouth.
Acting district chief Kevin Corkum said crews were called out to a home on fire in the 300 block of Waverley road just before 9 p.m. Monday.
"It was a two-storey home with an in-law suite," Corkum explained. "The fire was in the in-law suite," he added, noting crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.
Corkum said firefighters pulled a person from the home who was pronounced dead at the scene by EHS.
There's no word yet on what started the fire. Corkum said Halifax Regional Police and the coroner's office were also involved.
As for the firefighters who responded to the call, Corkum said supports are in place.
"Any time we have a scene that might play on the mind we have firefighters trained to debrief and we have a lot of mental health supports," he explained. "We look after our people after an incident like this."
