Pair of fires that destroyed garage, house on same property are considered suspicious (update)

By Mark Hodgins

RCMP are investigating after they say a pair of fires on the same property Monday afternoon and early Tuesday morning are considered to be suspicious in nature.

Earlier Tuesday, Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency (HRFE) said crews were first called to 145 Lower Partridge River Rd. near East Preston around 2 p.m. Monday where they found a garage on fire.

“When crews arrived they found a fully involved garage that was already collapsing in on itself,” said HRFE division commander Lloyd Currie.

He said firefighters were then called to the same address just before 2 a.m. Tuesday to find a house fully engulfed in flame.

Both structures were destroyed.

No injuries have been reported, and Currie says it's believed the house was unoccupied at the time.

The cause of the fires is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Halifax District RCMP at 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
