Apocalypse Now

One of the best war movies of all time, seeing Apocalypse Now is always a visceral experience.

With hints of Heart Of Darkness, it follows a U.S. Army officer who is given the assignment of killing a Special Forces Colonel who has gone off the deep end.

Set during Vietnam, director Francis Ford Coppola's epic film is a master-class in tense filmmaking.

The Oscars for cinematography and sound went to this one, and it's one of the most beautiful films of all time.

Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper and Harrison Ford all star.

It's an unforgettable triumph that will leave you reeling.

The Ghost Writer

This affecting political film from controversial director Roman Polanski is easily his best work since The Pianist.

Though the man himself is persona non grata, there's no denying the masterful efforts of his films, and this one is no different.

It follows a ghost writer hired to do the memoirs of a former Prime Minister of Britain, and the secrets he comes to know that put him in grave danger.

The tension is ratcheted up to 11 and the performances are sublime in this twisty thriller.

Ewan McGregor's star turn is captivating and Pierce Brosnan is intimidating and hugely entertaining as a politician with something to hide.

With a few standout turns from Olivia Williams, Jon Bernthal and Jim Belushi, this one offers some enriching surprises.

It's a dramatic thriller that has bite and intrigue, and I revisit it yearly.

4/5 Stars

American Sniper

Clint Eastwood is a legendary director and actor who, as of late, has been struggling to keep the flame going.

The four-time Oscar winner's American Sniper represents his best directorial film since 2003's Mystic River, and it will always hold a place among respected favourites.

It follows real-life Navy S.E.A.L.Chris Kyle, a sniper and a legend, and his important story. It's another look at PTSD and the difficulties adjusting to life after war, but this one just hits differently.

The cast is fronted by Bradley Cooper, in his first role that made me really, truly sit up and take notice. He's spellbinding here, and he carries the film.

He's joined by Sienna Miller, Kyle Gallner, and Keir O'Donnell, but it truly is Cooper who makes this one.

It's a patriotic and incredible film that will keep you engrossed through its runtime.

4/5 Stars

Queer Eye

I don't think there's any show more beautiful or inspirational than Queer Eye, and it's required viewing for me whenever there's a new season.

The nine Emmy-winning show follows five LGBTQ1S+ men as they help people with fashion and self-confidence.

A remake of a 2000s show, it follows the wonderful icons as they refine wardrobes, diet, and also allow people to get a bit of flair back in their lives.

The show is one of those things that makes me laugh, cry and get excited at in the same breath, and the cast is amazing.

From Interior Design to Culture, Food, Grooming and Fashion, this is a show that might just make you change some things in your own life.

The new season is out, and you simply need to jump aboard this journey.
