Registration for HRM's Spring 2021 Master Composter Recycler Program is now open.

Local waste educator with Divert Nova Scotia Kelly Gaulton says the free, six-week education program aims to help residents become more knowledgeable on waste management in the Halifax region.

"It's important for people to understand why we sort the way we do because that's where it really makes you stop and think when you're discarding of your waste to make sure things are going to the right place," Gaulton said.

She says the program amounts to 12 hours of education, and includes virtual training sessions and facility tours.
