Shelter Nova Scotia asking for donations to put someone up for a night

HALIFAX – Shelter Nova Scotia is asking for donations this holiday season to cover the cost of putting someone up for the night.

With generosity in the air, spokesperson Colleen Ritchie is hoping that extends to Shelter Nova Scotia, which on any given night provides beds for up to 157 people in six different facilities.

“We have two emergency shelters, two second-stage apartments for people who are our tenants and then we have two houses for people making the transition from corrections back to the community,” Ritchie said.

She said $35. 50 covers the cost of putting someone up for the night at the shelter, which includes a bed and other household costs like food, heat, electricity and water.

This also gives access to a phone and a place to do laundry.

“We just wanted to find a way to share with people that just like your household costs, we have those costs too and a nice rest is a real gift,” Ritchie said.

Ritchie said residents can make the donation in honour of someone to let them know you're thinking about them.

A donation form can be found on Shelter Nova Scotia's website.
