An 11-year-old girl has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being shot in Halifax's west end.

Halifax Regional Police say a child outside a residence on Federal Avenue was struck by a bullet at around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday.

She had been moved inside by the time officers arrived.

The residence and a parked vehicle were also hit by gunfire.

The investigation is in its early stages and police are expected to remain on the scene throughout the day.

"There is no suspect information at this time and we do not have any information to suggest the youth was targeted," HRP said in a news release.

"Any information, no matter how small, is what could be needed to further advance the investigation."

Anyone with information or video from the area is asked to call police at 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

NOTE: This is a corrected story. CityNews originally reported a man had been shot. Police also say the girl was outside the residence when she was stuck by the bullet, but was inside when officers arrived.
