Significant rainfall on the way says special weather statement

By Meghan Groff

A special weather statement has been issued ahead of a storm that's expected to bring significant rainfall to the province.

Environment Canada says between 25 and 40 mm could fall Wednesday into Thursday, although some spots could get more.

Wind is also expected to be a factor with gusts potentially exceeding 80 km/h.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, it's thought the highest rainfall totals and strongest winds will happen near the Atlantic coast.

If you're travelling for the holidays, precipitation could start off with a brief period of snow or freezing rain before switching over to rain in parts of the northern mainland and Cape Breton.

“Rain may switch to a period of heavy wet snow for a time before ending Thursday morning in some areas making travel difficult,” Environment Canada said.
