SiRT no longer investigating Friday motorcycle crash in Elmsdale

By Meghan Groff

The province's Serious Incident Response Team says they will no longer be investigating a motorcycle crash in Elmsdale Friday night.

According to SiRT, an RCMP member turned on his emergency equipment when he saw a motorcycle driving without lights while carrying a passenger who wasn't wearing a helmet.

They say the bike went through a construction area against the flow of traffic before getting into a collision.

According to RCMP, it happened at 9:41 p.m. on Highway 2 near the Highway 214 intersection.

The report from the Mounties said the matter was handed over to the independent watchdog because the male passenger ended up with serious but non-life threatening injuries and the male driver had minor injuries.

“However, updated information received indicates that neither the driver nor the passenger of the motorcycle nor any other party involved was seriously injured,” said SiRT in a news release.

They said because of that, it falls outside of their mandate. They investigate all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia.

RCMP will continue to investigate the incident.
