Homelessness in Halifax is the only item on the agenda of Tuesday's special regional council meeting.
Mayor Mike Savage says they're going to update the public on the city's efforts.
The city has come under fire during that time for its handling of the situation including when police evicted encampments in August of last year, resulting in clashes with protesters.
Speaking to CityNews, mayor savage says things have changed in the way the city has approached the issue in the last year.
"To treat people with dignity, empathy and provide people with opportunities, also recognizing that what we do affects all citizens of the municipality," Savage said.
More recently, HRM designated four sites for un-housed people to use for shelter as an alternative to Meaghar park.
"We now have a number of people working this file who are right on the ground," Savage said.
Council is set to meet at 1 p.m.
