Special weather statement issued for Halifax

By Mark Hodgins

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Halifax ahead of what's expected to be a stormy couple of days.

The national forecaster says rain will start late this afternoon and will become heavy this evening.

Most of the rain will come tomorrow with up to 50 mm on tap for Wednesday.

Areas along the coast could see gusts higher than 80 km/h.

There are rainfall and wind warnings in effect along the south shore with this storm, and Environment Canada says those warnings could expand to HRM.

The wind and rain is expected to taper off by Thursday morning.
