St. Margaret’s Bay Road construction closure extended again

By Meghan Groff

Halifax Regional Municipality says it could be late November until a section of St. Margaret's Bay Road closed for construction reopens.

They've extended the project between Quarry Road and Douglas Drive a second time.

They say crews have encountered unexpected delays including:

-Bedrock encountered under the street for underground infrastructure installation
-The unanticipated removal of very old, unmarked water/sewer infrastructure
-Additional sewer and water lateral installations
-Additional storm sewer connection installations

There will be no through-traffic until it's complete but HRM says customers can still reach businesses in that stretch and residents will have access to their driveways.

Crews will continue to be on the job seven days a week for the rest October and November until the work is finished.

The stretch shut down July 24th for what was expected at the time to be an 11-week project.
