The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the following traffic disruptions will be in place in the Spring Garden Road area, from Monday, Nov. 30 to Tuesday, Dec. 1, to install a number of street enhancements in support of the Spring Garden Road Streetscaping Project (Imagine Spring Garden Road)

  • Birmingham Street, between Spring Garden Road and Artillery Place, will be closed from 7 a.m. to midnight on Monday, Nov. 30.
  • Dresden Row, between Clyde Street and Artillery Place, will be closed from 7 a.m. to midnight on Monday, Nov. 30.
  • Road construction will take place at the intersection of Queen Street, Artillery Place and Birmingham Street on Monday, Nov. 30 and Tuesday, Dec. 1. Crews will be on site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway.

The following one-way street changes will be in effect as of Tuesday, Dec. 1:

  • Birmingham Street, between Spring Garden Road and Artillery Place, will change to one-way southbound traffic only.
  • Dresden Row, between Clyde Street and Artillery Place, will change to one-way northbound traffic only.

These changes are being made to improve vehicle movement in the area and provide more curbside loading and parking opportunities, including accessible parking.

The following intersection improvement pilot project will be in effect as of Wednesday, Dec. 2:

  • The intersection of Queen Street, Artillery Place and Birmingham Street will be temporarily modified to improve pedestrian safety by shortening crossings distances and calming traffic. Tactical materials including posts, paint, curbs, and planters will be used to make these adjustments. View the design here

These changes were recommended through public engagement, and were approved by Regional Council in 2019
