Tractor-trailer driver arrested for impaired driving after hitting tree

By Andrew Pinsent

DARTMOUTH – Halifax Regional Police have charged a tractor-trailer driver with impaired driving after a rig he was driving smashed into a tree in Dartmouth early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the crash just before 3 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Victoria Road and Russell Street, where the driver was arrested on scene.

The crash also caused the shutdown of Victoria Road between Russell Street and Chappell Street for several hours as the company that owned the truck transferred its refrigerated product before it could be towed.

The road was expected to re-open Saturday afternoon once the towing process is complete, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer has been charged with impaired driving and will appear in court at a later date.
