Traffic stop leads to numerous weapons charges for Dartmouth man

A Dartmouth man is facing a number of weapons charges after being pulled over on Thursday, according to Halifax Regional Police. 

HRP says officers pulled the 28-year-old over in the area of Pinecrest Dr. and Primrose St. just before 5:30 p.m. 

According to police, the driver had a firearm and some drugs. 

Jamal Jason Downey is scheduled to appear in court today on the following charges:

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of firearm where serial number has been altered defaced or removed
