Halifax District RCMP say the driver of a tractor-trailer has been airlifted to hospital after rolling over on the Eastern Shore.
Emergency crews were called to Highway 374 in Malay Falls just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday when the truck hauling wood chips left the highway and ended up on its roof in a ditch.
Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said the vehicle is heavily damaged and it took some time to extract the driver.
He has been airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.
"Given the fact that EHS LifeFlight attended and transported the male from the scene is an indication of the level of injuries," he said.
RCMP say the highway is expected to be closed for several hours while a collision analyst investigates.
Hutchinson said it could be 8 or 9 p.m. before they are able to reopen Highway 374.
