If your garage, basement, cupboards and closets are filling up with items you no longer use, this is the weekend to try and get rid of them.

Halifax's fall Curbside Give Away will be held this Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17.

"Residents are encouraged to place unwanted items at their curbs for prospective treasure hunters to haul away," said Halifax Regional Municipality in a news release.

Examples include books, furniture, toys, kitchen items, sports equipment, clothing and electronics.

The clean and sanitized reusable household items should be clearly marked with "free" stickers or signs and treasure hunters are asked to not take anything without one.

Items that didn't find a new home need to be removed from the curb by dusk on Sunday. HRM recommends donating them to a charitable organization.

The municipality has set up a map on its website where people can promote their items and treasure hunters can plan ahead.

"Residents are encouraged to pin the location and details of items to be put curbside to assist others in searching and finding specific items by neighbourhood," said HRM in a news release.

The event goes rain or shine.
