Two youths charged after knife seized at Lower Sackville school

By Dan Ahlstrand

Halifax District RCMP arrested two youths after an incident Tuesday that saw a knife seized at a Lower Sackville school.

Officers were called to Leslie Thomas Junior High around 2:20 p.m. after a report that staff had taken a knife from a youth.

The school was placed into a hold and secure state for about 25 minutes during the incident, but after police had the suspect in custody, things returned to normal.

During their investigation, police learned that the suspect and a second youth had threatened a third youth at a strip mall on Sackville Drive earlier in the day.

A short time later, police took the second youth into custody at an undisclosed location in Lower Sackville.

Both youths will face a charge of Uttering Threats, and one will also face a charge of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

No injuries were reported.
