When can Nova Scotians start legally buying cannabis edibles?

Cannabis edibles are expected to slowly start making their way to store shelves later this month.

Edibles along with extracts and topicals officially became legal in Canada on October 17.

That was the date licensed producers could start sending their product applications to Health Canada for approval, however the NSLC isn't allowed to start issuing purchase orders until December 16.

"We've been clearly in regular contact with our regular producers and we're hopeful to have a small offering in our stores on December 23rd based on what the licenced producers are telling us at this point," spokesperson Beverley Ware told NEWS 95.7's The Rick Howe Show.

Ware couldn't say specifically what products will be available at that time.

"We won't be able to carry baked goods or topicals initially, but we do expect to have a small offering of other product categories," she said.

In January, more inventory is expected to trickle in, but Ware doesn't expect the NSLC to have a full array of edibles, extracts and topicals for a number of months.

The products will be legally available at the same 12 NSLC locations where cannabis is currently sold and online through the NSLC website.

Four of those NSLCs are in HRM; on Portland St. in Dartmouth, Joseph Howe Dr. in Halifax, Downsview Plaza in Lower Sackville and the stand-alone store in the south end on Clyde Street.
