Halifax Wanderers season on hold as league postpones start

By Meghan Groff

The start of the Halifax Wanderers season has been put on hold.

On Friday, the Canadian Premier League announced the start of the 2020 season would be postponed.

“We have made this decision in support of the announcement by Canada Soccer on March 13th banning all sanctioned soccer activities in Canada, and the directive by our respective governments and health officials to ban all public gatherings,” said CPL commissioner David Clanachan in a news release.

He said the league's top priority is the well-being of fans, players, officials, employees and the general public.

The Wanderers had been scheduled to open their season on the road on April 13 against York9 FC. The home opener against the league's newest addition, Atlético Ottawa, was slated for April 25.

The CPL will release more information when they have it.
