TORONTO — Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (13,899.32, down 59.26 points.)

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Industrials. Down three cents, or 6.59 per cent, to 42.5 cents on 10.5 million shares.

Cenovus Energy Inc. (TSX:CVE). Energy. Flat on 10.3 million shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Materials. Up 22 cents, or 2.6 per cent, to $8.67 on 8.4 million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Materials. Up 30 cents, or 5.12 per cent, to $6.16 on 8 millon shares.

Air Canada (TSX:AC). Transport. Down $1.56, or 8.36 per cent, to $17.10 on 7.8 million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Materials. Up 12 cents, or 1.87 per cent, to $6.54 on 7.2 million shares.

Companies in the news:

WestJet Airlines Ltd. has confirmed it will lay off 1,700 pilots as the company continues to struggle with fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.About 700 pilots are slated to receive layoff notices effective May 1, with 1,000 more kicking in on June 1, depending on employee seniority, according to the Air Line Pilots Association.

Canopy Growth Corp. (TSX:WEED). Down 45 cent or 2.16 per cent, to $20.40 on 1.9 million shares. The company is making significant cuts just a month after the cannabis company slashed its workforce and took multi-million-dollar writedowns. Smiths Falls, Ont.-based Canopy said Thursday that it will lay off another 85 full-time workers, close a handful of facilities and cease operations in several countries as it tries to optimize its production and better balance supply and demand.
